Sometimes, after a car accident occurs, people don’t realize that they are actually injured. Not every injury is immediately apparent — and let’s face it — we’ve all got somewhere to go and something to do. We don’t have time to go to the doctor and get checked out.
That can be a very costly mistake, however. If someone who was in a car wreck later discovers that he or she is actually suffering ill effects from the accident, e.g., a concussion or soft tissue injuries in the back or neck, it is much harder to link them to the collision without medical documentation.
This can limit the recoverable amount of compensation from the at-fault party’s insurance carrier if the injured party decides to file a claim for damages before the case proscribes.
At The Paris Law Group, PC, we encourage our clients who have been in accidents caused by another driver’s negligence to get a physical exam and document all injuries and damages from the wreck. It’s a good idea to take pictures of bruises, scrapes, stitches and other visible signs of injury so that there is no dispute later.
We are always willing to negotiate so that our clients have an opportunity to settle their cases, but when push comes to shove with an intransigent insurance company, our attorneys will aggressively litigate these cases in the New York civil courts.
We understand that all of the long-term consequences of a collision may not fully be understood immediately by our clients. Because justice must be won, we will fight for them every step of the way.
